It is 2017, a brand new year, and about time I talk about something that has been on my mind for a long, long time. It is this Pessimism I see that is rampant with today's News Media, Social Media, Politicians, Environmentalists, Charities, Businesses, YouTubers, Websites, Bloggers, Neighbors, Police, Teachers, Churches, and just about Anything or Anyone, that you can think of, which has a way of getting the Public to listen to their cries of doom. I am not a Conspiracy Theory kind of guy, but I do know by reading a lot of History over the years that fear is a great motivating tactic used by World Leaders to gain and keep power. If nothing else, it causes a kind of apathy in people where they tell themselves, "What the use? Why should I try to do anything about this World because it already sucks!"
Well,
I am here to tell you that things are not all that bad!
Sure, there are a lot of problems in the World that need our attention as Citizens of this Country or of any Country. The World is an ever changing place that needs the attention of its Inhabitants as time moves on. But this is not the end of the World. Every Generation believes their Generation must be the last because what is happening in the World. Don't you think people who lived through the First World War, and then had to see the start of the Second World War believe it was the end? I believe that when I was growing up, it was a lot more of a frightening era to live in then now. Let me give you some examples of what was going on during the 1960s.
We had
Riots.
We had the Ole Miss riot of 1962, where Southern segregationist civilians and federal and state forces beginning the night of September 30, 1962; segregationists were protesting the enrollment of James Meredith, a black US military veteran, at the University of Mississippi (known affectionately as Ole Miss) at Oxford, Mississippi.
We had the Stonewall Riots, were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by members of the gay (LGBT) community against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. They are widely considered to constitute the single most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for LGBT rights in the United States.
I counted over
30 Riots
during the
1960s.
In Chicago alone,
I counted 7 riots in two years,
1968 & 1969.
We protested everything from Blacks being bared from school to the Vietnam War.
We had homegrown
Terrorists.
The Weather Underground, was an American militant radical left-wing organization founded on the Ann Arbor campus of the University of Michigan. The Weatherman organized in 1969 as a faction of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) composed for the most part of the national office leadership of SDS and their supporters. Their goal was to create a clandestine revolutionary party for the overthrow of the U.S. government.
There was the United Federated Forces of the Symbionese Liberation Army was an American self-styled left-wing revolutionary organization active between 1973 and 1975 that considered itself a vanguard army. The group committed bank robberies, two murders, and other acts of violence.
There are more,
but those are the only two who come to mind right now.
We had
Serial Killers.
The Boston Strangler. Albert DeSalvo. 1962 - 1964
The Railway Sniper. Rudy Bladel. 1963 - 1973
The Red Spider. Lucian Staniak 1964 - 1967
Zodiac Killer. Unknown. 1967 - 1970
Charles Manson. 1967 - 1970
John Wayne Gacy. 1967 - 1978
Those are just the most famous ones,
there were a lot more
and you can do a search for more information on the
website
We had our own
National Guard
shooting
American Students.
The Kent State shootings (also known as the May 4 massacre or the Kent State massacre) occurred at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, in the United States and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. There were 28 soldiers who admitted to firing on top of the hill, 25 of these soldiers fired 55 rounds into the air and into the ground, two of the soldiers fired .45cal pistol shots, three into the crowd, and three into the air, one soldier fired bird-shot into the air (one person, James Russell was hit with a shotgun's bird-shot). The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.
I could go on & on,
but my point is,
every
Generation
believes that the
World
is a messed up place.
If you don't believe me,
you can always check back in
History
to read a curmudgeonly 1889 article about
and its spiritual cousin,
a fifteenth-century screed
I am not going to sit here
and tell you it is a
Conspiracy,
I am going to tell you it is your job to get past all the sensationalism scare tactics
and be positive with yourself,
with other people,
how you live,
and how you bring up your children.
Let us make the next generation a positive one.

“The importance of Liking Yourself is a notion that fell heavily out of favor during the Coptic, anti-ego frenzy of the Acid Era--but nobody guessed back then that the experiment might churn up this kind of hangover: a whole subculture of frightened illiterates with no faith in anything.”
