Yes,
you in the back.
Do you have a question?
"TwoBuckHowie, what did Ivy Mike ever do for us?"
Good question.
Not much.
I'll let my good friends,
and they don't even know who I am,
at
explain it to you.
"Ivy Mike was the codename given to the first test of a full-scale thermonuclear device, in which part of the explosive yield comes from nuclear fusion. It was detonated on November 1, 1952 by the United States on the island of Elugelab in Enewetak Atoll, in the Pacific Ocean, as part of Operation Ivy. It was the first full test of the Teller-Ulam design, a staged fusion device. Due to its physical size and fusion fuel type (cryogenic liquid deuterium), the Mike device was not suitable for use as a weapon; it was intended as an extremely conservative proof of concept experiment to validate the concepts used for multi-megaton detonations. A simplified and lightened bomb version (the EC-16) was prepared, and scheduled to be tested in operation Castle Yankee, as a backup in case the non-cryogenic "Shrimp" fusion device (tested in Castle Bravo) failed to work; that test was cancelled when the Bravo device was tested successfully, making the cryogenic designs obsolete."
After that test,
the so called
began in earnest!
1947 thru 1991
"TwoBuckHowie, what does earnest mean?
Don't they teach you anything in school anymore?
Oh,
that's right.
It is no longer the responsibility of the
School
to teach your kids anything.
As
Parents,
it is your job to have them counting to
100
and saying their
ABC's
before they start
Kindergarten.
As a
Parent,
I was told that I needed to spend at least
1 Hour
a day,
with each child of mine,
helping them with their
Education.
Let's see.
I have
7 Kids
and when they were in
School,
I was working
45 to 50 Hours
a week,
5 to 6 Days
a week.
Oh,
sorry.
I get carried away sometimes when I think of the
Pompous Attitude
of the local
High School
when an
Administrator
at the school once said to me,
"If you can't spend that much time with your kids, helping them with their education, maybe you shouldn't live here in Temecula!"
1. serious in intention, purpose, or effort; sincerely zealous:
an earnest worker.
2. showing depth and sincerity of feeling:
earnest words; an earnest entreaty.
3. seriously important; demanding or receiving serious attention.
4. full seriousness, as of intention or purpose:
to speak in earnest.
