I thinking about the days when I was in the

Cub Scouts

 and

Boy Scouts,

back home,

in

South Milwaukee,

Wisconsin.

I actually enjoyed being a

Cub Scout

more than a

Boy Scout.

The reason I believe that I liked the

Cub Scouts

so much is because my

Mom

was the

Den Mother

of our group.

The only real story I can still remember of those days is when our troop went on a field trip to the

Port Of Milwaukee.

This was during the early 1960s

and the reason we were going to the

Port

was to take a tour of a

World War 2

era

U.S. Navy Submarine.

Yes,

they still had submarines stationed in the

Great Lakes

during this time because at first,

our

Government

was afraid of

German U-Boats

infiltrating these waters during
and after

WW2.
Then,
afterwards,
it was the

Cold War

with

Russia.

I guess the

Military

thought that during the

Cold War

that

Russia

would attack

Canada

first,

then come down from the

North

and take over the

Great Lake Region.

I'm not sure,

its just my speculation.

While our troop of

Cub Scouts

was touring the

Submarine,

and let me tell you,

there was barely enough room for us kids to move around,

the

Lines

or

Hawsers

mooring the

Submarine

to the pier somehow unraveled

and the ship floated away from the dock.

Since there wasn't a full crew to run the ship back,

the

Navy Lieutenant

giving the tour had to radio in to the

Port Authorities

for a

Tug Boat.

We were all kept down inside the ship until we docked because our

Den Mother

thought we might fall over board

and drown.

But still,

it was an adventure of a lifetime for an eight

or nine year old,

and I had plenty of tales to tell my fellow students when I went back to school on

Monday Morning!

The other day a friend of mine and I were disusing what men find attractive in women. I said,

"I think more men today are looking for intelligence in a woman."

A Scary Moment

I wouldn't say I'm getting old but...

The other day one of my grandsons called me up on the phone to talk.

He usually comes over to my house every weekend to play my

Xbox

and watch movies with me.

I have 12 other grandchildren

and two great-grandchildren but none of them live in

California.

It would be a great treat for me if all of them could come

and stay over but that is not possible at this time.

Where was I?

Oh yeah.

My grandson,

who is 11 years old just wanted to talk to me for a little while.

I assume because he misses me.

We were talking about his

Mom,

how he was doing in school,

and when it might be possible for him to come back to my house for a visit. All of a sudden he says in a very excited voice,

"Someone is in my house!"

By the sound of his voice I could tell that he was very serious.

I quickly asked if his

Dad

was at home

and he replied,

"Yes."

Then I exclaimed.

"Go tell your father right away, but be careful!"

A little confused,

my grandson asked me,

"Why?"

"Someone is in your house!"

I said frantically.

He started laughing

and told me he was playing

and someone was in his house in the game!

Wildfire! It's Not The Name Of My New Band

 The alert was actually at 2:13 a.m. last night.

The wildfire is on the east end of

Camp Pendleton

where I worked for almost 10 years.

 We received the alert notice because the fire is 14 miles from my house!

I have said it before;

"We have 3 seasons in California. Summer, Winter, and Fire!"
