About Me

My photo
Hello my fellow Politiores Troglodytes. This Blog is a collection of Posts, Poems, & Short Stories that I write on a daily basis. If you find it entertaining, informative, and controversial, then I have done my job properly. Thank goodness too, because Karma has been on my case of late. I'm supposed to bring fifty people into the fold or I'll have to give back the part of Einstein's brain I inherited. No, I'm not one of the Scientists who got a piece of his brain when he died. Karma said, "Eat this knowledge. It'll make you smarter!" The bargain I made with Karma was, if I could change fifty people into Politiores Populos, I would be rewarded with my very own Lamborghini. So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Like what you're reading, then read on. P.S. Populo is Latin for people. Politiores is Latin for educated. Troglodytes is English for troglodytes. And Einstein's brain was stolen by Thomas Stoltz Harvey after his death in 1955 and eventually divvied up into 240 pieces. If you just read that last sentence, then you have just learned something and I'm just that much closer to fulfilling my commitment to Karma!

First; The Devil Made Me Do It. Then; Society Made Me Do It. Now It Is; My Genes Made Me Do It.

"Are some people BORN killers? Biggest ever brain imaging study of mass murderers reveals they are wired differently"
By Ellie Zolfagharifard and Richard Gray For Dailymail.com
"According to the largest forensic neuroscience library in the world, there are surprising similarities between the abnormal brains structures of mass murderers. What's more, the differences are 'at least 50 percent caused by genetics', raising the disturbing possibility that people can be born killers. The discovery follows research that claims there are certain genetic triggers than can create a murderer. One of them is a variant of cadherin 13 (CDH13), which is involved in neural connectivity, and has been linked to impulse control in extremely violent offenders. Previous studies have linked other genes to violent crime, including a gene called monoamine oxidase A (MAOA) that contributes to less recycling of the neurotransmitter, dopamine."
You might be asking yourself why am I talking about this?

"Can Your Genes Make You Kill?"
by Lois Parshley for Popular Science on MSN.com
"The killer read his Bible. He drank. Heavily. It was a fall night in 2006, when Bradley Waldroup walked out of his rural trailer in southeastern Tennessee, carrying his .22 caliber hunting rifle. His estranged wife and her friend, Leslie Bradshaw, had just pulled up to drop off the Waldroups’ four children. Waldroup began arguing with his wife and Bradshaw, who was unloading the car. Drawing his gun, Waldroup shot Bradshaw eight times, killing her. He used a knife to cut her head open.To save his life, his legal team took an unusual approach, never before admitted in a capital-murder case. They sent a sample of Waldroup’s blood to the molecular genetics lab at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. Lab techs there were told to look at a specific gene. Sure enough, they found Waldroup had a genetic variant on his X chromosome, one that coded the enzyme monoamine oxidase-A (MAOA). MAOA’s job is to break down crucial neurotransmitters, such as dopamine and serotonin. If left unchecked, these potent chemicals can build up in the brain and cause a loss of impulse control and an increase in violence and rage. In part, Waldroup’s lawyers were claiming, his genes made him do it."

He read his Bible.
He was knowledgeable.
So he must have at least been smart enough to know the changes building up inside of him.
Couldn't he have asked for help before he committed a crime?
I see this as a Lawyer making a name for himself by finding another flaw in the justice system.

"Can you tell psychopaths by the way they speak?"
"Have you ever met someone and thought they were a little off? Just by the way someone speaks, we can pick up on social cues and emotional intelligence that give us certain impressions about them. Communications researchers have taken this hunch to another level. They interviewed convicted murderers whose self-reported tests reveal them to be psychopaths and analyzed the specific language usage of their speech patterns. The research was led by Jeffrey Hancock, a communications professor at Cornell University, whose work focuses on two types of language phenomenon in particular: verbal irony and deception. Hancock and his team observed multiple specific abnormal speech patterns in the psychopaths they interviewed. Defined by psychologists, a psychopath is someone who does not forge the emotional bonds that normal people do and do not empathize with others. They tend to see people as means to their own ends, rather than as individuals. These emotional abnormalities manifest in their speech patterns in a few interesting ways. The psychopaths who were interviewed tended to use a lot of causal phrases like “so” and “because.” The researchers interpreted this to mean that they were explaining their crimes away as a “logical outcome of a plan (something that ‘had’ to be done to achieve a goal).’” In contrast, other convicted criminals who are not psychopaths tend to use more language around religion and their own guilt when describing their crime. The researchers observed other aberrations in psychopaths’ speech. Psychopaths in the study spoke of basic needs like food and money twice as much as the other subjects in the study, and they also use more disfluencies (phrases like “uh” or “umm”) to break up their speech. Learn more about disfluencies here. The real world application of these conclusions may seem far fetched, but police departments and investigators hope to use craigslist or facebook posts to determine psychological profiles of suspects or potential criminals."

Even
has gotten into the question,
"Are we responsible for our actions if our genes are messed up?"
Why am I talking about this?
Well,
it will not effect me in my lifetime.
It will probably will not effect my children's
and my grandchildren's lives.
But after that,
gene manipulation will be well under way,
and who is really capable of deciding what is best for a newborn's gene pool.
I am sure there are millions in this World who have the bad genes in their genetics
and haven't killed.
The people who are in power today only need a sensational few to sway the public to start messing with the gene pool of the future!

This is,

"What This Country Needs Is A Good War To Weed Out All The Weakness In Our Gene Pool."

And,

That is my story and I am sticking to it!

The Dictionary.com article is taken from a research paper by Jeffrey Hancock from Cornell University. When it came out I sent Mr. Hancock an email with all the words, including uh and umm, as bullet points on why I thought his work was hogwash. He never did respond to me. I like to think though, that I am on somebodies watch list right now from that email. What a bunch of $#!+ as an excuse to play with the gene pool.
