About Me

My photo
Hello my fellow Politiores Troglodytes. This Blog is a collection of Posts, Poems, & Short Stories that I write on a weekly basis. If you find it entertaining, informative, and controversial, then I have done my job properly. Thank goodness too, because Karma has been on my case of late. I'm supposed to bring fifty people into the fold or I'll have to give back the part of Einstein's brain I inherited. No, I'm not one of the Scientists who got a piece of his brain when he died. Karma said, "Eat this knowledge. It'll make you smarter!" The bargain I made with Karma was, if I could change fifty people into Politiores Populos, I would be rewarded with my very own Lamborghini. So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Like what you're reading, then read on. P.S. Populo is Latin for people. Politiores is Latin for educated. Troglodytes is English for troglodytes. And Einstein's brain was stolen by Thomas Stoltz Harvey after his death in 1955 and eventually divvied up into 240 pieces. If you just read that last sentence, then you have just learned something and I'm just that much closer to fulfilling my commitment to Karma!

Going Home

As my kids grew older, I would often tell them about the great family life I had growing up and how beautiful the scenic area was where we lived. Proclaiming, back in my day, it was a time when neighbors would actually come out of their homes to say hello to one another. There were no fences between yards for barriers, no one had cell phones, no computers, no emailing and no texting. Nothing so impersonal like the technology they use today to make themselves think they are being more sociable.
I remember going on vacation for two weeks, my Parents forgetting to lock the doors on our house, but we didn’t worry. You always knew that the neighbors nearby had your back. Everyone knew who was away on vacation and made sure no one broke into their home.
Not like today, where it is a struggle for the neighbors to say hi to one-another when you see them outdoors.
It probably has something to do with our neighborhood having to endure this middle class poverty life, while in the “The Great State of Nickle & Dime You to Death California,” so you can’t afford to do any activities outside your own home.
Where I grew up, the grass was green and trees were the scent of pine. The nearby cornfields were full of Pheasants, Mallard Ducks swam in the ponds, and the Ruffed Grouse ruffled in the grassland. We had deer hunting, ice fishing, camping, and boating. It was clean air, friendly faces, and open spaces.
The local park where played every day spanned thirty miles along the shores of Lake Michigan.
So when I finally had the chance to take the kids to see my home town and the house I grew up in, I jumped at it. My brother said he would put us up at his house so we could be there for the first family reunion in twenty years.
I told my children that the family no longer owned the structure on the corner of Elm Street and Juniper Circle, but I would drive them out there before the reunion, just so they could see the old place.
And an old place it was. Gone was the only elm tree on Elm Street which had shaded us in the front yard. The once green grass I rolled around on, was now infested with weeds. The metal shed I erected as a youth, rusted through and had fallen in on itself. The garden of tomatoes, carrots, and radishes my Mother grew was now a junk yard of old tires, car parts, refrigerators, washers and dryers.
A Fire Marshal's notice condemned the place while Police tape was supposed to keep out any looters. You could see that the living room was half gone from a fire which had also taken most of the roof.
I saw a young man a couple of houses down, in his front yard, watering his roses. Walking towards him to ask what had happened, he pointed the hose our way even though the water couldn't reach us.
“Stop right there, Mister.” He said while giving me an angry scowl. “If you are in anyway associated with those Bittleman brothers, you can just turn around right now!”
I introduced myself and told him why we were there. He then opened up enough to tell me the brothers inherited the house after their Mother had died shortly after purchasing the place. How ten days ago the two of them got drunk and with their pistols in hand started shooting beer cans off the refrigerator in the middle of all that debris. When the Police were called in, the two brothers barricaded themselves inside the house and wouldn’t come out. After a twelve-hour standoff with the Cops, the Chief of Police decided to use tear gas to get them out, which must have triggered the fire.
I thanked the gentleman for his time and we left.  There was nothing left to see.
On the way back to my brother’s place, my oldest daughter tried to cheer me up by saying, “Dad, we didn't think we were going to see anything special anyways. The neighborhood was bound to be different. You know how you are always telling us that in life change is inevitable, so don't be surprised by it, embrace it. Well, what did you expect?”
Of course the middle child had to have her turn at me. “Don't you remember Dad? You've taken us camping and fishing. We've sang songs together around a campfire and hiked in the mountains! We have done some of the same things you say are so great here.”
My youngest son surprised me next with his wisdom by consoling me with, “Dad, we like where we are growing up. All of our friends are there. We know nothing about living anywhere else.”
After being consoled by my children, I thought about a quote I once heard.
“Home is where the heart is.”

Mailing My Ballot In Early

Apathy [ap-uh-thee]  1. absence or suppression of passion, emotion, or excitement.
                                     2. lack of interest in or concern for things that others find moving or exciting.  Dictionary.com

What's up
America?
Or,
in reality.
What's up
Millennials?
I keep hearing that you are;
Turned Off, Tuned Out, and May Not Vote!
By Clyde Hughes for NewsMax.com
"Millennials' interest in the election has dipped sharply since its peak in March and their lack of enthusiasm could mean many may not vote come Nov. 8, according to a USA Today/Rock the Vote Poll. That ordinarily would be bad news for Hillary Clinton, had Donald Trump not stumbled so badly recently, since millennials prefer Clinton over Trump by more than 3-1 and because their enthusiasm has tumbled since March when Sen. Bernie Sanders was fighting for the Democratic nomination, said USA Today. Millennials say jobs and the economy is the No. 1 issue followed by education and health care in the second tier and terrorism, civil rights, immigration and gun laws in the third tier, said the Ipsos-created poll. The Ipsos poll said millennials, ages 18 to 34, particularly millennial likely voters, mostly identify themselves as Democrats and Clinton has built her lead with the group, now up to a plus-49 percent advantage."

Let me tell you a little story about voting
and how every vote counts.
My
Grandfather,
when he was alive,
was a local
Politician
in the city of
Cudahy, Wisconsin.
The very first year he ran for public office,
his family was so sure that he was going to win,
that my
Mother,
when she was still being courted by my
Father,
when he was still courting my
Mother,
decided it was too much trouble for them to go out
and vote.
Back then,
the candidates would receive a phone call from the
telling them of the results.
My
Grandfather
got the call
and lost by
One Vote.
If my
Parents
had gone out
and voted,
my
Mother's Vote
would have been the tying vote,
and my
Father's Vote
would have been the winning vote.
Your vote
and every vote counts.
The happy ending to this story is,
my
Grandfather
ran again for
Public Office
two years later
and won.
He then held the position for
16 Years
in a row until he retired.
True story.

In California,
There Is So Much More To Vote For Than Just For
The President Of The United States.
Like Preposition 60,
Which Requires "Adult Male Film Performers" To Where A Condom At All Times During Filming.

Once Again, I'm Doing It Late

On
Sunday,
I talked about
Absent-Mindedness.
And if you read that
Post,
no,
it is not a true story.
The reason I wrote it though,
is because at the end of last month,
I forgot to write
The 5 Best Posts Of September, 2016!

So,
without any further embarrassment on my part,
here are those
5 Best Posts Of September, 2016!
In order of popularity.
 For the second
Month
in a row,
we have a tie for
5th & 4th Place!

                                 &

The Fifth or Fourth Best Post Of September is; "Poetry, Short Stories, ...etc" is all about the right side of my Blog, under that heading, explaining how those stories and poetry you see there are all written by me. I appreciate it every time someone takes a peak at those items. More so then having you read my Posts. Thank you.

The Fourth or Fifth Best Post Of September is; "My Father, ...etc" is my complaint from hearing too many times from Athletes and Sports Announcers how they are going to War, it's a Life or Death situation, and that they are ready to Battle! My Father, Brother, And Son-In-Law are all Military Veterans. Two of them fought in real Wars where Life or Death was truly on the line.

The Third Best Post Of September is;
My ranting about someone I know who says he is Patriotic but hides his money overseas and doesn't pay any Taxes. The funny part of this story is, after I wrote it, I found out he was bilked for $300,000
dollars in that "Overseas Bank Account" of his. Serves him right. I want a tax return too each year, but I am not willing to commit a crime to not pay taxes. If I could afford it, I would gladly give up my return each year to support out Great Country!

These next two
Best Posts Of September
I take great pride in.
They are two
Flash Fiction Stories
that I wrote.

The Second Best Post Of September is;
A humorous story I wrote where I am deathly afraid of Friday the 13th! No spoilers so you will just have to read it.

And the Number One Best Post Of September, 2016 is;
A story about a Hacker who, of course, hacks into the wrong computer which is in today's technology friendly refrigerators. (If you hadn't heard about them, look it up.) What happens when he goes to the Police about his findings and the eventual meeting with the person who owns that particular refrigerator.

Well,
there you have it.
Now wasn't that worth the wait?

Never Condoning Slapping Your Children

Monday morning blues got you down?
What you need to do is get the answers to those two questions you never knew you wanted to ask?

TwoBuckHowie, Jim, or whomever you are trying to be this week. What is "Quid Pro Quo," and why do I have such a hard time using it in a sentence?
Well, my insipid friend. First of all, you have to do something for an Equal Exchange. Like for Like. Measure for Measure. An Eye for an Eye. In other words, you have to do something for someone for them to do something for you. Dictionary.com says; Quid Pro Quo [kwid proh kwoh] something that is given or taken in return for something else. Much too confusing of a definition. I like my explanation better. Now, if you want to use it in a sentence, try what the Patrick F. Kennedy tried.
State Department and FBI deny "Quid Pro Quo" over Clinton email classification.

The backstabbing

Man,
you've got to love it.

Mister TwoBuckHowie. Do animals jam?
You darn tootin' they do. Just ask the National Geographic website Animal Jam. You get to create your very own animal, actually your login and password, then you can have hours of fun playing games, adopting pets, learning about those fuzzy furry creatures, and just get to know about nature that is all around us. In an animated-pretend kind of World. Ages 3 and up. And you can bet those two wooden teeth of yours, there Hildegarde. I play it as much as humanly possible. Well, maybe not humanly. OK, I never played it. I saw kids play it at local library and they seem to be having fun. Now, slap your kids in the back of their heads and make them sit in front of the computer and have some fun, darn it!

Not Allowed To Be Within 500 Feet Of My Neighbor's House

I have designated
Sunday,
the day of rest,
as my day to tie up
Loose Ends,
do rebuttals to any
Comments
left on my
Posts,
and
fill in the blanks on
or
of stories I forgot to write about.
They say in life,
and I do not know who they are,
"If you are fortunate to live a long life, you have stages later in your life where parts of it seems to be missing."
It begins when you don't doing something,
that you were supposed to do,
and then you are labeled with
Absent-mindedness.
People will say you are becoming
Senile
after a certain age for searching for your car keys while they are in your hand.
You get a few gray hairs
and your forgetfulness turns into
Dementia.
Finally,
you forget to put your pants on when you wake up in the morning
and you get the label of having
Alzheimer's!
Let me ask you this with a sound mind and body.
Who here,
in this
Great Country
of ours,
hasn't gone into the neighbor's house after a night of partying,
fallen asleep,
and gone through the dresser drawers looking for a pair pants when they wake up?
You are all a bunch of lairs if I am the only one!
The reason I might forget something is because my mind is like a computer.
I have so much useless stuff stored up in there,
that when I forget to clean out my
Mind's Cache,
it has no room for new information.
Like wearing pants!

This is,
