About Me

My photo
Hello my fellow Politiores Troglodytes. This Blog is a collection of Posts, Poems, & Short Stories that I write on a weekly basis. If you find it entertaining, informative, and controversial, then I have done my job properly. Thank goodness too, because Karma has been on my case of late. I'm supposed to bring fifty people into the fold or I'll have to give back the part of Einstein's brain I inherited. No, I'm not one of the Scientists who got a piece of his brain when he died. Karma said, "Eat this knowledge. It'll make you smarter!" The bargain I made with Karma was, if I could change fifty people into Politiores Populos, I would be rewarded with my very own Lamborghini. So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Like what you're reading, then read on. P.S. Populo is Latin for people. Politiores is Latin for educated. Troglodytes is English for troglodytes. And Einstein's brain was stolen by Thomas Stoltz Harvey after his death in 1955 and eventually divvied up into 240 pieces. If you just read that last sentence, then you have just learned something and I'm just that much closer to fulfilling my commitment to Karma!

What Is On My Mind

I have a couple of things on my mind today.
First,
I have been getting asked a lot lately,
"How do I find all the chapters of "Murder In Soho" if I don't look at your blog daily?"
Since the left side is getting pretty crowded with all my originals I put the chapters of
"Murder In Soho"
on the right side under the
Translator
program.
You will see
Followers
on the top,
then
Translator,
and finally
"Murder In Soho".
Thanks for the great responses I have been getting about this story.

I want to applaud former
for his comments about the
GOP
today.
By Chandelis Duster, for CNN
Former President George W. Bush on Tuesday described the Republican Party as "isolationist, protectionist and, to a certain extent, nativist," his strongest and most direct criticism yet against his own party since leaving office in 2009. When asked if he was disappointed by the party, the former President said, "Well, it is not exactly my vision but I am just an old guy they put out to pasture. Just a simple painter."
He has a lot more to say so click on the link above.
I think it is great he is finally speaking out.

"Murder In Soho" The End

"Detective Luna." Captain Murphy says happily. "I want to thank you for being such a butt-head over the years with your dislike of police AIs. It has been clearly documented by the department and you make the perfect patsy for the perfect murder."
"I'm the perfect patsy for what murder?" I ask dumbfounded.
"Don't be daft Detective. Mister Carlos Malone's of course." Murphy responds confident.
"Oh, that one." I say. "And I thought that murder was perpetrated by someone from the IT department or robotic maintenance."
"I knew you were close to being on the right track when you made your little speech to Alfred here, while walking through Malone's apartment."
"I see. I guess I tipped my hand before I needed to."
Turning around to look at the Investigator AI, I ask it, "Your name is Alfred?"
"That is what Captain Murphy calls me." It responds.
Shaking my head back and forth to express how wrong it feels to name a bot Alfred, I slowly look back to Murphy thinking, I need time.
"Let me ask you three little questions Murph?" I wait for her response.
"Why not." She tells me with conviction. "I will never be able to tell anyone of my victories over you and Carlos anyways."
She believes this is some kind of sport, or game. "Why kill Carlos Malone in the first place? Is Alfred here the killer bot and is it off the grid? Why the need for the emotional upload to the AIs? And you'll never get away with it." I added defiantly.
"Oh I will get away with it Detective. I've turned off all voice and video recordings in my office." she declares. "I personally killed Carlos because he was a womanizing pervert who refused to have anything to do with me after a one night stand. I never let him forget me by having police bots stay outside his residence once a month since we met. Now, as far as evidence goes, Alfred here will break your neck in two while protecting me from your vicious assault and then I will wipe the memories of the entire AI police force, Alfred included, with a virus that will be found coming from your home computer."
Murphy pauses, obviously enjoying herself. "Did I leave anything out?"
"Why the emotional upload then?" I ask, still hoping for a miracle.
"An unforeseen side effect of the virus I created." she nonchalantly replies. "I've been working on this scheme for 22 years. Waiting to have enough recorded evidence of your hatred towards AIs so I can implicate you in a conspiracy to destroy them."
Murphy stands up behind her desk laughing insanely. Points to me and looks at Alfred, saying, "Kill her! Kill her now!"
Before I can turn around and see my attacker, I put my hands around my head and fall to the ground in a fetal position. I hear the lightening quick bot move expecting the worst. I hope it is quick, I was thinking while squeezing my eyes shut tight.
Fist there is the sound of a thump, then of a thud, as my mind goes to a dark place. Shouldn't this be over by now? Is it playing with me? Hurry up!
I feel the light touch of metallic fingers on my shoulder. "You can get up now Detective Luna. It is all over."
Opening my eyes, I see Alfred looking at me. "What happened?"
"I choose life and doing the right thing." it tells me. "I knock out Captain Murphy and downloaded everything that she said to the District Attorney. She will be going to prison for a long time I feel."
"How can you choose life? Your an inanimate machine." I say, calculating the consequences of his statement. "Do mean Murphy's virus mistakenly gave the AIs the ability of self awareness? The golden key scientists have been searching for hundreds of years?"
"Only one hundred years." Alfred replies.
      I sit there stunned.
"Detective Luna." the bot says to me. "This makes us best friends now, doesn't it?"
     "What?" I scream.
"Throughout history of mankind, when someone saves a person's life, that person is indebted to his savior. They become companions, or in our case, friends." He says emotionally.
"Alfred. I can't become friends with you. I have a reputation to live up to!" I say emphatically. Not realizing I used his name instead of the word it.
"You can call me Al. I prefer that name."
     God I hate bots!

"Murder In Soho" Part Seven

I arrive at the police station and immediately notice that the parking lot is empty of patrol cars. Going inside I ask the Sargent at the front desk, "What is going on? Where is everyone?"
He tells me, after taking out a pencil from a tin can which holds a bunch of number twos. "The Captain says she is tired of seeing all of her officers just sitting around getting fat while the AIs do all the work. So today she implemented a new procedure where one officer and one AI ride together patrolling the city streets."
"Wow,' I say, watching as he puts the pencil back. "The Captains has gone all gun-ho all of a sudden. I wonder what's bugging her?"
"I don't know," says the Sargent, picking up a different pencil and wiggling it between two fingers. "But, in the unscheduled impromptu meeting she called today, which by the way you didn't show up for, she says there is crime out there in our city and we need to go find it. The Captain says we are going back to the days when police officers patrolled the city streets. Starting this evening, each officer is working overtime and assigned an AI as his new partner."
He puts the pencil back into the tin cup.
I get the gist of what this guy is saying, but all I can think about is, hasn't any of the AIs told this guy how redundant he is? How does anything get done around here?
"Detective Luna? Detective!" the Sargent practically yells, pointing a new pencil at me. "The Captain will see you now."
"Sorry, I was thinking about the case I am working on." I say hopefully. To explain why I was drifting off. I didn't want him thinking I was being rude in anyway towards him because of his boring redundant personality. I might need him to do me a favor someday.
"Thank you." I tell him smiling and walk to the frosted glass door marked, Captain Murphy.
Just outside her door, I look up, wave to the security camera, and smile as if I mean it.
"Get in here Detective, now!" I hear her yelling through the glass door. She didn't even bother trying the camera's intercom.
"Hi Murph," I say as I enter. "What's up?"
"Don't try getting friendly with me Detective." she growls. "How many times have I told you not to put your handheld or neural-net on, do not disturb?"
    "I don't know. Maybe....
"Shut up and sit down. I have a new new policy you are going to adhere to religiously.
"You know I'm not religious." I say smiling. "What's got you all edgy today boss?"
Before she answers, the Captain looks past me, and I see a large smile broaden her face. I turn around to see the investigator AI that I am working on the murder case with enter the room.
"Don't tell me you are going to pair me up with this bot?" I ask. "I swear, something is wrong with his programming."
Hearing her fingernails press a few glass keys on her built in desk top computer, Murphy says triumphantly, "Perfect. Now I have the last piece to the puzzle."
I turn around to look back at her and ask suspiciously, "What are you talking about? Last piece to what puzzle?"

"Murder In Soho" Part Six

"Detective Luna," the AI says reassuringly. "I can only state the facts. It is unfortunate that most humans do not like to hear the truth about their capabilities and failings. As far as implying that I or any police AI working with me on this case is covering up evidence for the killer is just preposterous. I have personally conducted several diagnostics on myself and the other AIs on the scene to eliminate the possibility something is amiss."
I smile at the bot and say, "Okay, I wanted to hear from you. I believe you."
But I don't believe it. Too many strange little tidbits on how the bots are acting just don't add up. It says that there hasn't been any upgrades downloaded in their programming recently but until this case, non of them have ever showed the slightest bit of emotion. In fact, it would have to be some kind of virus attack on our bots because the State of New York has outlawed emotional programming in police bots. The public sees emotional AIs as a threatening somehow. Probably ingrained from the military style used in the 21st Century. When groups of local police departments would decide, in a gang mentality, how their city streets would be policed. All across the country, usually whites, would be protected and others would be persecuted for no other reason than the color of their skin.
I need to get out of here and think things over.
Knowing that the investigator bot can pick up on any facial nuances that might indicate I think it's lying or any of my voice inflections that might also give me away, I start walking towards the front door to leave so it can't see my face. I take out my handheld on the way, looking down at it, like I'm concentrating hard, hoping none of the other bots can evaluate my expression and relay any suspicion to the investigator bot. While this is going on I say, with the least amount of tension in my voice that I can muster, "Send any new evidence you and your team have collected since I've been here to my handheld. I'm going to find a nice quiet place away from the crime scene, clear my thoughts, and thoroughly read the case file."
"May I suggest getting some coffee and donuts too!" the bot says. Relaying the hundred year old cliché about cops and bakery. "It is a fact that humans perform better on a full stomach. Also, I know you are trying to miss direct me by staring at your handheld, because it's not on. Captain Murphy has told me through the police band that she has repeatedly tried to get a hold of you through your neural-net and handheld but both are on, do not disturb mode. She asked me to tell you that she wants you in her office pronto."
    God I hate bots.
"I'll call her as soon as I get to my car," I said to it. "I was looking at my handheld because I was going to turn it on."
As I enter the hallway I ask myself, why did I try to make excuses for it. It's only a bot, nothing more.
I find my car, tell it to head for police headquarters, and start craving coffee and donuts.
    God I hate bots.
