I have been driving for
for awhile now
and have notice a few things a long the way.
First;
Alcohol
is my friend as a driver.
I am not saying I drink
and drive or anything foolish like that.
I am saying people are a lot smarter nowadays about going out for a drink.
Instead of driving themselves
and risking being stopped for a
DUI,
a lot of people are using the
Lyft App
and getting a ride to
and from the establishments they want to drink at.
Very commendable.
The second thing I have noticed is;
so far the fifty
or so rides that I have personally driven,
most of the people are very friendly
and talkative.
Which goes hand in hand with my personality.
The third thing I have noticed about some of my customers is;
some will be staring at their phones
or have earbuds in
and do not want to talk at all.
The fourth thing I have seen is;
I have to know when to talk
and when to listen.
I have had one lady,
who was obviously intoxicated,
start a conversation telling me how happy she was
and how motivated she was in life.
Towards the end of a ten minute ride she was telling me how she was getting a divorce
and how she hated men.
One girl who I thought was very intelligent asked me about relationship advice with her life partner.
On one ride,
a guy asked me what was the worst day I ever had in life.
He was obviously in pain about something.
I told him I didn't have a worst day,
but I had a terrible two weeks in my life once.
I told him about the time in my life where the company I worked for went on strike,
I was evicted from the townhouse I lived in,
I cracked up my
Cadillac Eldorado,
my girlfriend left me,
and the
Rock N' Roll Band
I was playing in broke up.
That all happened to me in a two week period
and is the honest to
God
truth.
He actually smiled
and said his life wasn't as bad as all that.
I also told him,
if he works through it like I did,
things will get better for him.
I hope I helped him at least get through the day
and that he found hope for his future.
Because that was a really bad two weeks I had
and life did get better for me!
Now,
I have to have a
Superhero T-Shirt
made up saying;
"I am not a therapist, I am a Lyft Driver!"
