About Me

My photo
Hello my fellow Politiores Troglodytes. This Blog is a collection of Posts, Poems, & Short Stories that I write on a daily basis. If you find it entertaining, informative, and controversial, then I have done my job properly. Thank goodness too, because Karma has been on my case of late. I'm supposed to bring fifty people into the fold or I'll have to give back the part of Einstein's brain I inherited. No, I'm not one of the Scientists who got a piece of his brain when he died. Karma said, "Eat this knowledge. It'll make you smarter!" The bargain I made with Karma was, if I could change fifty people into Politiores Populos, I would be rewarded with my very own Lamborghini. So, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! Like what you're reading, then read on. P.S. Populo is Latin for people. Politiores is Latin for educated. Troglodytes is English for troglodytes. And Einstein's brain was stolen by Thomas Stoltz Harvey after his death in 1955 and eventually divvied up into 240 pieces. If you just read that last sentence, then you have just learned something and I'm just that much closer to fulfilling my commitment to Karma!

How Can I Help?

I know it has been awhile since I wrote something.
Earlier in the quarantine I have tried to keep things upbeat
and humorous.
Then I wrote about a few topics I found interesting.
You see,
I was trying to stay away from talking about the pandemic since I figured everyone gets enough information about it in their own way
or that you might be tired of hearing about it.
But I feel it has come to the point where I need to say something.
*****
During a crisis you will find there are 3 types of people.
First,
there are people who will who will say,
"I don't care what happens to other people as long as it doesn't affect me."
Second,
there are are people who will think,
"How can I rip people off and make money off of this?"
Third,
there are people who will ask,
"How can I help?"

Just The Facts

I didn't write anything yesterday because it was family day in our household.
My youngest turned 21 years old.
I am
Irish & German
and we sadly missed out on a family tradition going back a least a couple of generations because of the quarantine.
I wasn't able to take my son out to a bar
and get him drunk!
Some traditions are not that good anyways.
******
What I want to talk about today is a website I have known about for years.
In a world where everyone can use a search engine to reinforce their beliefs by becoming experts with
"Alternative Facts,"
people should try looking at
once in-a-while.
Snopes stops Fact Checking with Facebook - iMediaEthics
Snopes is one of the internet's fact-checking resources.
Almost every country
or region of the world has their own version
and the
United States
has more than one.
  • Climate Feedback, which is dedicated to fact-checking media coverage of climate change.
  • FactCheck.org and FactCheckEd.org: non-partisan, nonprofit sister websites that are self-described "advocates for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics," and serving as an educational resource for high school teachers and students, respectively (the latter founded 2005). They are projects of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, and are funded primarily by the Annenberg Foundation.
  • Fact Checker (The Washington Post): A project of The Washington Post, known for grading politicians on the factual accuracy of their statements with zero to four "Pinocchios."[89] Created September 2007 by Post diplomatic writer Michael Dobbs specifically for the 2008 presidential campaign.[90] Ceased operation 4 November 2008, but relaunched with a broader focus in January 2011, led by veteran Post diplomatic correspondent Glenn Kessler.
  • Media Bias/Fact Check is a web site that rates factual accuracy and political bias in news media. The site classifies media sources on a political bias spectrum, as well as on the accuracy of their factual reporting.
  • PolitiFact.com: A service of the Tampa Bay Times - Created August 2007, uses the "Truth-o-Meter" to rank the amount of truth in public persons' statements. 2009 Pulitzer Prize Winner.
  • TruthOrFiction.com validates and debunks urban legends, Internet rumors, e-mail forwards, and other stories of unknown or questionable origin.
  • RealClearPolitics' Fact Check Review aspires to offer quaternary-level critiquing of such tertiary-level efforts at fact-checking as those listed above. Within its inaugural review item on April 9, 2018, RCP writer Kalev Leetaru said its efforts at "checking the fact checkers" were to "explore how the flagship fact-checking organizations operate in practice (as opposed to their self-reported descriptions), from their claim and verification sourcing to their topical focus to just what constitutes a 'fact. Leetaru is a Georgetown University fellow in residence, holding the chair established there for study and promotion of "international values, communications technology and the global Internet."
So just don't search something
and believe the first thing you see.
Fact-Check It!

Your Inner Strengths

Today,
more than ever,
we need more positivity in our lives while while we are in quarantine.
From
News Organizations,
TV Shows,
Movies,
Peer Pressure,
to
Bullying On Social Media,
and everything in between,
today's society seems filled with gloomy,
depressing,
and hopeless situations.
It my day,
bullying only came from our older siblings
or from the toughest guy in school.
Today there are many more ways to bully someone
and they can hide behind the mask of anonymity from the internet.
I always told my kids when they were growing up to always stay positive.
Misery loves company
and people always love to see you fail rather then help you succeed.
The people who do help you are your true friends
and family.

So I found
Test
which you can take that could help you understand your inner self.
Get all your family members to take it
and you just might be amazed by their results.
The original idea was created by
Donald O. Clifton (February 5, 1924 – September 14, 2003) was an American psychologist, educator, author, researcher, and entrepreneur. He founded Selection Research, Inc., which later acquired Gallup Inc., where he became chairman, and developed CliftonStrengths, Gallup's online psychological assessment. Clifton was recognized with a presidential commendation from the American Psychological Association as "the father of strengths-based psychology and the grandfather of positive psychology".

Quotes Of The Day

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
- J.R.R. Tolkien -

- Tom Bodett -

- Margaret Mead -

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

VR Spacewalk

Last night I got a chance to use my daughter's
and I took a trip into outer space.
Actually,
according to the game,
I was doing a spacewalk 25 miles above the Earth.
Talking about having vertigo!

I Have Joined An ATC Meeting

I liked this

so much from

that I'm
rePosting
part of it here today for your reading pleasure.
It was called

I just got out of a

An acronym for
Addicted To Cellphones.
Just like all the other help organizations out there making money from the down trodden,
we have a
Twelve Step Program
that I must follow religiously to get on a path of recovery.
Right now,
I am not going to go into every step I have to take
and I am not going to tell you I cannot be cured like alcoholics.
I just need to start by taking my first step.

Ghost Hunting

I had enough!
I cannot take it anymore.
Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Why we love big, blood-curdling screams
That isn't me of course.
That is
from
original version of the movie
Why am I screaming you ask?
Last night I watched an episode of
and he had on his show one of those
I appreciate the fact that
Rob Riggle's
show is supposed to be on the humorous side of investigating historical legends
and he doesn't take it seriously.
Now raise your hand if you have watched one of these shows where people say they can hunt
Ghosts
and travel around the world doing so.
That many huh?
Did you ever see these guys & gals go to
Mexico's eerie Island of the Dolls
 Supposedly,
it all started when a little girl drowned in the river
and the owner of the island found her doll.
People around the area started dropping dolls in the water because of their superstition
and the island owner would fetch them out of the river,
hanging them anywhere he could.
When these
Ghost Hunters
do an investigation there,
one of the techniques they use is asking the
Ghost
who it is
and what does it want.
The island is near
Mexico City
and these people ask the
Ghost
their questions in
English!
Rob Riggle was told to talk to the
Ghost
of a
Roman Soldier
and he asked his questions in
English
not
Latin!
Roman soldier's ghost 'still patrols Hadrian's Wall' | Weird ...
 I guess the
has a built in

so everyone can understand

A Comment Worthy Enough

Finally,
a
Comment
worthy enough to answer their queries.
On my
Post

Jacqueline commented
and asked -
Wow! It's been some time since I've read your blog since I have forgotten I had this particular Blogspot account (I've moved to a new one! raisingarya.blogspot.com). I like that you play 3 rounds of each game. Any reason why 3 is your magic number?
Hi Jacqueline.
I love the name of your new
Blogspot
account.
In my opinion,
that is what life is all about.
Taking care of our children,
making them our world,
and naming things after them in their honor!
To answer your question,
"Why is 3 my magic number?"
The short answer is,
3 is my favorite number.
The long answer is,
I get so addicted to my cellphone that I waste my whole day looking at it.
I have written about here on my
Blog
with
Posts
called

because it is the funniest one out of the three!

Man Of The World

As a
"Man of the World,"
or really just a guy who sits in front of his television set all the time,
watching TV shows from other countries,
like Taiwan's
"It Started With A Kiss,"
"Crazy For You,"
and Canada's
"Little Mosque On The Prairie.
(Those are just examples.)
I find myself enjoying,
how other countries see
Americans
I know,
Canadians
are
Americans
too!
So don't yell at me.
I recently went back to one of the video streaming sites out of
that I know of,
which I haven't been to for awhile.
I was kind of amazed by what I saw.
The first thing that popped out at me was that they no longer have advertisement from the
United States.
I am sure it has a lot to do with the
World Pandemic
we are in
but there used to be a lot for
American TV
and
American Products.
They still are showing
Hollywood Movies
and
HBO TV Shows
but without the labels showing who produced them.
Everything is labeled in
Mandarin.
I really hope this pandemic shows the world that we are all in this together,
no matter who you are
or where you are from
and it brings us closes together as a species.

What Is Your Routine?

I wake up between 5:30 to 6:00 a.m. everyday.
Not because I want to,
because of being in the work force for almost 40 years!
I do my morning constitution,
wash my hands,
and brush my teeth.
Since I am the only one up during this time I venture over to my couch
and look at my phone.
The 1st thing I do is play 3 rounds of
F1 Manager - Apps on Google Play
Then I'll fix myself some breakfast
and turn on my computer.
While eating
and waiting for the computer to boot up I'll get in 3 rounds of
Boggle With Friends: Word Game on the App Store
My eldest daughter got me hooked on this game
and she doesn't even play it any longer.
Then I'll check the viewership numbers on my
Blog,
while sitting there hoping I come up with an idea to write about today.
Discouraged,
I'll go for my 2 mile walk I do everyday,
listening to one of my favorite
Podcasts.
Hoping I come up with an idea worth writing about.
When I get back home I'll play 3 rounds of
Angry Birds 2 | Angry Birds
Afterwards I'll sit
and write the first thing to comes to mind on this
Blog.
Finished,
I'll check out some
News Sites
so I can compare the different alternative facts they all give
and make a decision for myself what is the truth.
After that I'll eat again,
and boy am I gaining a lot of weight!
Then my routine starts all over again.
Not with walking, listening to podcasts, or reading news stories on the computer.
No,
my routine is to play 3 more rounds each of
F1 Manager,
Boggle,
and
Angry Birds 2.
